Marriage & Couples Counseling

Reforming Relationships for a Stronger Connection

Every relationship goes through seasons of difficulty. Miscommunication, unresolved conflict, shifting priorities, or a significant breach of trust can create distance between partners that feels impossible to bridge on your own. Marriage and couples counseling provides a safe, guided space for both partners to be heard, understood, and supported as you work toward a relationship that is stronger, more connected, and more intentional.

At Reformation Counseling Center, we work with couples at every stage — whether you’re preparing for marriage, working through a rough patch, recovering from betrayal, or seeking to deepen the connection you already have. Our counselors provide a neutral, non-judgmental environment where both partners can express themselves openly and develop the tools for a more fulfilling partnership.

Couples counseling is not only for relationships in trouble. Many couples seek counseling proactively to improve communication and deepen their connection.

Is This Right for You?

Who Couples Counseling Is For

Couples counseling may be helpful if you and your partner are experiencing:
Frequent arguments or conflicts that feel unresolvable or cyclical
Communication breakdowns where one or both partners feel unheard or dismissed
Emotional distance, disconnection, or a sense of growing apart
Difficulty navigating a major life change together, such as parenthood, job transitions, relocation, or retirement
A breach of trust, including infidelity or emotional affairs
Disagreements about finances, parenting, intimacy, or shared goals
A desire to strengthen your relationship before challenges become crises
Preparing for marriage and wanting to build a strong foundation (pre-marital counseling)

How we can help

Our Approach

Our counselors use research-supported methods to help couples rebuild trust, improve communication, and align on shared values:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for Couples

Identifies and addresses the thought patterns and assumptions each partner brings to the relationship that may be fueling conflict or disconnection.

Narrative Therapy

Helps couples examine the stories they’ve constructed about each other and the relationship, opening space for new, more constructive narratives that honor both partners.

Existential Therapy

Explores deeper questions around the meaning of the relationship, shared purpose, and individual identity within the partnership.

Motivational Interviewing

Supports partners in clarifying what they genuinely want from the relationship and finding the motivation to take steps toward change.

We also incorporate practical communication tools, conflict resolution skills, and exercises designed to help couples reconnect outside of the counseling room.

The Process

What to Expect

Initial Session

The first session is an opportunity for both partners to share their perspective on the relationship. Your counselor will listen without taking sides, identify key areas of concern, and begin to understand the patterns that may be contributing to the challenges you’re facing.

Working Together

Sessions are typically 50 to 60 minutes and are held weekly or biweekly. The counselor serves as a guide and facilitator, helping you practice new communication skills, work through specific conflicts, and develop a shared understanding of each other’s needs.

Pre-Marital Counseling

For couples preparing for marriage, pre-marital counseling provides a structured opportunity to discuss expectations, values, communication styles, conflict resolution, finances, and other areas that are important to a healthy marriage.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What if my partner is resistant to couples counseling?

It’s common for one partner to be more willing than the other. Sometimes scheduling the initial consultation call together can help ease concerns. If your partner isn’t ready, individual counseling can also help you develop communication tools and gain clarity about the relationship.

Does couples counseling mean our relationship is failing?

Not at all. Seeking counseling is a sign of commitment to the relationship. Many couples come to counseling to strengthen an already good partnership, not just to fix problems.

Can you help us decide whether to stay together or separate?

Our role is not to make that decision for you, but to help both partners gain the clarity they need to make a thoughtful, informed choice. Whether you decide to rebuild the relationship or part ways, we can support you through the process.

How long does couples counseling typically last?

This varies depending on the complexity of the issues. Some couples make significant progress in 8 to 12 sessions, while others benefit from longer-term work. Your counselor will regularly reassess your progress and goals.

Do you work with unmarried couples or same-sex couples?

Yes. Our counseling services are available to all couples, regardless of marital status or the nature of the relationship.
